Easy to find, easy to follow the trail

Star Point (9600 feet) is on the map, located west of Price, part of the Wasatch Plateau. Nearby is Gentry Mountain (10100 feet) and Monument Peak, the highpoint of Carbon county at 10443 feet. Mostly paved roadway leads to mining interests in the area. When the pavement runs out, the dirt road is recommended high clearance. There are some communication towers at the top. Views to the east and southeast are memorable. Bruin Point is 40 miles due east on the other side of the valley, coming in at 10158 feet. It also has towers at the top and a much steeper dirt road than Star Point.

Getting there:

Utah highway 10 leaves Price and continues south to join with I-70 at Fremont Junction. About 10 miles south of Price, local highway 122 leads west toward Wattis, Hiawatha, and the North Springs shooting range. Hiawatha has the coal-fired power plant. Star Point is past Wattis (elevation 7600 feet). Wattis even had a post office from 1917-1964, but little evidence of residents there now. Your goal is past the shooting range turnoff, the top peak west with the towers.
