Paiolinho route is a direct route to Mina Rock, 4th highest brazilian peak. Despite the fact it is a direct route, don't think this will be easy. The first time I did this route it took me 9,5 hours to get to the summit. The second time around 6 hours, and the third and last time around 5,5 hours. So it doesn't get much better than this, at least not for me. Let's take a look at this interesting route, a very strong, demanding route for this big brazilian summit...

Once you get to Passa Quatro, look at the main square for transport all the way up to Fazenda Serra Fina (Serra Fina Farm). At the bus station there is plenty of them, by the way, 4x4 only!

Get your legs warmed up, because you're gonna need it. It is non stop action, all the 8kms trail is up, all the time, up! Since you will be carrying too much weight it is a tough job. The altitude difference is huge, the farm is at 1570m and Mina Rock summit at 2.798m, you'll do an altitude gain of 1.228m. Big number.
Some people just can't handle the distance and set up camp at the 2000m point, where there is a water point available. Next day they keep walking up. Everytime I went up by Paiolinho route I saw someone camping right there. After wall, it is a long route, and at the end there is some scrambling to the top, at least 200 vertical meters. Just before one unnamed mountain you have to go down quite a bit, some 120 m, into a valley, and scramble your way up all over again, after that you will see Mina Rock for the very first time, already close to you.

Getting There
The start of the trail is in the Passa Quatro county. From Rio de Janeiro , around 320 km and São Paulo, the same. The mountain is far of any county around it. By the way , you must be with someone who knows the trail for your own security to climb or camping in this region. However, from Dutra road (BR-116) you take some views of the range.Once you get to Passa Quatro, look at the main square for transport all the way up to Fazenda Serra Fina (Serra Fina Farm).
