4 on the Floor - the beginning

I have recently become fascinated with high pointing. I've always loved hiking and being in the mountains, decided it was time for some specific goals.
It was a brutal summer here in GA and wanted to beat the heat for a day. I wanted to knock out some high points and my friend Al said he would go with. Also with us was my friend's dog, Poquito - who will join me on future high point trips.
Two years ago to the day (8/28/2014), my friend Al and I hiked to the summit of Mt Adams, WA. Much different than the summits of these high points.
We left my house in Suwanee, GA at 0500 hrs. First stop, Sassafras Mountain, SC.
Upon arrival, clouds and fog blocked any views. Then suddenly, the clouds broke (not completely) and had some decent views. Took a few pics.
On to Mt Mitchell, NC. Beautiful drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway. The higher we got, the more clouds and fog. Parked at the visitors center, short walk to the top. Very poor visibility, maybe 200' at the most. A few photos...on to TN
Parked at the Clingman's Dome lot, walked the paved path to the top. Much clearer, but still heavy clouds, which made for some neat scenery. A few photos, time to head back to GA.
Last stop, Brasstown Bald, GA. Getting late in the day, close to sunset. Hurried up the paved path to the observatory. Photos, enjoyed the cool breeze. Time to head home. 14 hour day.
Felt great to escape the blistering 90+ degree weather of Atlanta.
