Visit the ranger station at Wheeler Gorge to find out.
Route Description
This hike is 8.6 miles roundtrip with 2,000 feet of elevation gain.
Make your way to the back of the campground and you will see the Rose Valley fire road on the right (west). Follow this road for a very steep 2.2 miles where it intersects the Nordhoff Ridge fire road. At Nordhoff turn left (east) and hike for 1.6 miles, at which point you will turn off the road and will start hiking up a fire break off the right hand side of the road (south side of the road). Follow the fire break for the last half of a mile to the summit. The very last portion requires some scrambling for which there is no set path.
There is no water along the route, so bring plenty of water. It may also be helpful to wear long pants for the final half mile of hiking and scrambling up the fire break.
