This is one of 5 types of maple that grow on Velebit. I don't remember seeing oak's on Veliko Rujno or anywhere at this altitude. It seams it is to cold for them already and it is only 900m. Predominant species on Rujno are pine and beech (whole slope in the background) wits some maples. Forest line is at around 1400m while on some places beech reaches 1550. It is amazing to me that in Colorado forest climbes over 3000m and there is no permanent snow cover on 4000+ meter peaks. If Velebit was that high glaciers would descent towards sea. That would be amazing.
