Watching Santa Maria

Watching Santa Maria

Still in his sleeping bag, Lucas watches Santiaguito, at the foot of Santa Maria, erupt. This photo was taken from the summit of Santo Tomas, in the Western Highlands of Guatemala. Santiaguito, destroyed my village when it initially erupted in 1902.

Brilliant view

I climbed Santa Maria back in 2006 but it wa a cloudy day and was unable to see Santiaguito.

Gracias

Thanks Razor! Yeah it is beautiful there (and almost always cloudy). I only had good views on Santa Maria twice out of five or six trips.

Re: This is...

Baarb, this was taken from the flat area around 200 meters before the summit of Santo Tomas. You only get a good view when the weather is decent though (Nov - March or so).
