Melinda ...

Great canyon - where is the source
of this water? Is it a natural
spring, or just melting snow???

I grew up in Tooele. The way that
I grew up saying it was TWO-ELLA,
not Tu-will-uh. Not a problem!!!
I guess it depends on where you
grew up and who you believe.
Watch your footing out there on
that snow & ice - do you own a
pair of snowshoes??? Awesome.

Re: Melinda ...

Larry, thanks for your interest in Canaan Mountain. I added your info about Tooele to my Deseret Peak page. I’m still learning about the history of many places in Utah so I appreciate your help. I go snowshoeing in the mountains during winter so I'll try to be careful on all of the snow and ice.

Good question about the water source. I think it’s from melting snow. The canyon usually has a lot of water running through it after a storm. There are potholes on top of the plateau that fill up with water after it rains. The largest one is known as Canaan Lake which is located HERE. There are also several springs on the mountain. The trail goes near one of them named Sawmill Spring which is a good place to camp on the plateau. It is located HERE.
