Water in the huge Ohridsko...

Water in the huge Ohridsko Ezero (693m) (Ohrid Lake), which is 310m deep, is crystal clear. It is located in the SW Macedonia and is country's largest lake. SW third belong to Albania. Ohrid Lake is one of the three oldest lakes on the planet. It was created some 4 million years ago. Scientists call it lake of the living fossils. It provided sanctuary for creatures from the tertiary period which died out elsewhere during the ice ages. The closest relatives of species like the endemic Ohrid Trout (Salmo letnica) survive only as fossils. In the lake there are many more endemics. Read more about this amazing lake, which is protected by UNESCO as World Heritage, on the main page. Photo: Aleksandar Gospic

Wonderful!!!

Is this taken with the new 8MB Olympus? How do you do it? I bought a polaroid filter again, but doesn't serve me well. Incredible shot!

Re: Wonderful!!!

Thanks Vid!! Yes, it was taken with Olympus C8080. How do I do it? WB set for daylight (sunny weather), contrast -2 for this shot, saturation +3, hue 0, sharpness 0 (I sharpen after resizing) and that's it :-) Well, with every new model processing algorithms are getting better, you should upgrade, if possible

Re: Wonderful!!!

Are you saying, that you set all these things (contrast, saturation, hue, sharpness) already when taking picture? On my camera I experiment and correct on the spot only darkness (+-).

If necessary, I do saturation, hue and contrast later, on my computer. I am especially careful with very light and very dark parts of picture. Even on this your picture I would first darken a bit white stones, which are shining too much. And only then apply some more contrast, which makes water so clear and transparent :)

Re: Wonderful!!!

Yes Vid, I set everything on the spot, I like photos to be exactly as I see them on the spot, who would bother to adjust so many photos at home. But I don't touch hue and sharpness, never; I'm pleased with default setting. Saturation is always at +3 but that isn't much more dramatic than default 0 setting, just like bit more color. What I almost change for each shot is contrast, which is crucial! Each angle demands different contrasts. But for each shot I immediately see what setting is necessary and I have dedicated button only for it so it is fast. All of the photos in my photo folders on HD are originals; I don't adjust anything at home, except some of these resized for SP before posting. Stones are shining to bright because they are over exposed and I can't darken them because data doesn't exists on them, it is just pure white. That is because of polarizing filter which created to much contrast between dark sky and white shiny stones on the beach but it isn't that I didn't notice it when taking photo but that I don't care if they are overexposed. I could have avoided if I wanted to but sometimes I like that as effect. Maybe they are bit more bright here than on original because of extra contrast. I could have added contrast to rest of the photo without touching stones additionally but since this is not for the book I didn't care :-)
