Quick stroll over from Baldy...great views from Catalina to the snow covered Southern Sierra peaks...
A great winter snowclimb with Bryan. During the ascent we had to dodge huge potentially fatal ice bombs falling from the trees. On the summits, 45mph winds were whipping up major spindrift. We descended from the Antonio / Harwood saddle in a sudden white out and the slope turned out to be icy and sketchy. I fell twice and had to arrest with my axe. We should have brought crampons.

my short clip:
Hiked to West Baldy as part of my 11 peaks day hike.
Ran over this one on a loop hike of Mt. Baldy while out chasing county highpoints in SoCal. Trip Report
Did this with Baldy, fun day!!
Went up the Devil's Backbone, tagged Harwood, Baldy, then West Baldy before descending via the ski hut trail.
With Jeff Ho
I hiked over from Main Baldy a few times. I always remembered the time in spring when the snow was boilerplate in some places on the hike over. That was before I lived in Wyoming where snow is much more part of life then in SoCal. Its below zero outside right now.
Start of the BBL after ascending Bear Canyon trail.
Just a little side trip over from the crowded main peak of Baldy.
Good way to pad your summit stats. Usually empty even when Mt. Baldy is crowded.
Nice view of Iron Mountain and Baldy proper.
The hike to West Baldy (9988’) from Baldy was .6 miles with an elevation gain of 148’. The view was amazing, and it seemed like we were on an island in the clouds up there. After taking some pictures we made our way back .6 miles and up 224’ to Mount Baldy. We hurried the 2.6 miles back down the trail to the lodge because we wanted to be back in time to ride the ski left down to Manker Flat.
jogged over for a quick summit tag from Baldy proper
Did it in conjuncture with Mount San Antonio. Great view of Iron Mountain and the rest of the San Gabriels.
Finally I made it over to West Baldy. I climbed Baldy from the Register Ridge and then headed over to West Baldy, checked out San Antonio Ridge for a little bit and returned via Ski Hut trail. Few snow patches on the traverse from Baldy.
I was on top of Baldy and West Baldy looked higher to me. When I got to West Baldy the error of my ways was apparent. Foot deep snow made the traverse fun.
I usually tag this one when going up or down the Bear Canyon Trail.
Bagged it on the way back from Old Baldy. The ridge looks tempting...
