West Butte - April 12, 1968

Ken M. and John L. (peakrat76) on the summit of the West Butte; April 12, 1968. On this our second ascent of the butte, we posed with the old fencepost that we had discovered on our first ascent (March 17, 1968.)The view is looking toward the south/southwest. We carved our initials on the post and left it propped up. By the time we completed our sixth, and final ascent of the butte in December, 1970, it was gone. Whether the wind finally blew it off the cliff, or it was thrown by some subsequent climber is unknown. It remains a mystery on who originally placed the post on the summit. (Photo by Bill F.)
