West Buttress-Mount McKinley

West Buttress-Mount McKinley

It was Bradford Washburn who first "discovered" the West Buttress route, which has become the "Easy" route to the summit. Our Cessina gave us a fantastic view of a section of the route. In this image of the West Buttress, most climbers attempt this route by roughly following the shadow line (see image) up to Windy Corner (bare rock) and go around to the right. My source of this data is Bill Post, veteran pilot of Talkeetna Air Taxi, who knows these hills.
