Just drove this section of road (July 17, 2010) and there were a few folds that would make any normal car cringe. In addition, hundreds of various sized sharp rocks pepper the way. I had my Mitsubishi Montero and I was glad I had the extra clearance. I noticed that a Ford Windstar had made it 1.5 miles beyond the CG, but that was it. All other vehicles I saw beyond that point were high clearance types. That would certainly be my recommendation.
Have you (or anyone else reading this) ever tried to traverse the ridge from Provo Peak to Cascade? I saw a guy on YouTube do it, but I would love to read an actual trip report.
