West Slope of Mount Agassiz...

West Slope of Mount Agassiz...

West Slope of Mount Agassiz from near Bishop Pass (Sep 27, 2003). The usual route slogs up endless talus on the left side of the south slope (shown in red); a slightly more enjoyable scramble is to climb one of the righthand chutes (shown in green).

Agassiz West Chutes

Good pic. Standing at the east beach of the tarn, looking up, I climbed the right-hand chute of two you can see up into. I think that put me in the green-marked chute or left of it. Class 2 with some fun Class 3-, not sandy nor chossy. Crossed over to chute to right at 13K to avoid Class 4, then left again at 13.5K, and up to summit. 9-19-2013, not a single cloud on horizon, no wind on top. Great view.

Helpful picture

Thanks for the image. I had it with me on 6/26/15 and I used the red route to get up. It was very helpful to have this image with me and have the confidence I was prepared. Coming back, on the trail, I met a couple that was planning to summit that evening and hike back at night. I gave them the print and made them very happy. They didn't seem very prepare. But, thanks to you, we felt very confident in our hike.
