San Juan Backpacking
Done along with 5 other 14ers during a week long backpacking trip in the San Juans. There were thunderstorms every day in the afternoon.

Uncompahgre and Wetterhorn
Ascended Unco first. Went up the west face, which was a bit scary when crossing the steep snow fields. Descended the main trail and ran back over to Wetterhorn. Tressa Breindel accompanied me.
only mistake was down climbing straight down the mountain from the ledge instead of taking the conventional trail down the ridge. this turned into a very long spree filled day trying to traverse back to the trail from the west basin.

Wet Boots Sink Ships
Made it near the mid-twelves with Arien, Tom and Ben. Mother nature was acting up making for a risky summit. Could not believe how high the green grass climbed on Matterhorn's southern face.

Wetterhorn - Matterhorn
Climbed both peaks from the Matterhorn Creek Trailhead. The class 3 final pitch was excited. There were many marmots in the boulderfield around 12,500 feet.

attempt on Matterhorn
we climbed the standard route and went after Matterhorn but were thwarted by the extremely loose rock
I had to get this one before leaving Lake City. After having to turn around from 13,800` due to storms on the second part of the Uncompahgre/Wetterhorn combo 3 days before I summited without problems on a magnificent sunny day. I was supposed to do San Luis on this day but that one can wait. It was the last of the 5 14ers in the area that I climbed.
Fun climb with Tom Day of Morrison, Colorado. We crossed over and climbed Uncompahgre too. Super fun summit pitch and a beautiful day.

sweet peak!
We had high winds and snow in the morning, but as we neared the summit, it was clearing quickly. We continued on to Matterhorn and Broken Hill that day.
I always say that the summit pitch has more intimidating exposure than any 14er I've done so far (except Sunlight's summit block).

Summer & Winter
7/2/05 - Climbed the standard route from Matterhorn Creek TH. Fun scramble with a great finish. Continued on to Uncompahgre afterwards. Long day.
1/10/10 - Winter summit! Backpacked to a bit past Matterhorn Creek TH (over 7 miles) and climbed Wetterhorn the following day following more or less the standard route. Tough but very rewarding summit!
...that I never saw (we climbed it in the clouds). I do remember some terrific columbines along the trail, and some fun scramblilng to reach the summit. I'd love to go back some day and experience the radical dropoffs and tremendous views I have seen in the pictures.

AKA "Ladderhorn"
Climbed from Matterhorn TH attempting to do Wetterhorn and Uncompahgre on the same day. Ran into a bit of dehydration/sickness before reaching the ridge. Decided to stick to Wetterhorn and was able to push through and summit. Actual climb was not as hard as expected, with the final summit pitch feeling like taking a ladder to the top. Thoroughly enjoyed the summit and amazing views surrounding us. A bittersweet moment to gaze upon beautiful Uncompahgre. Next time!
