White Domes-- West Peak Summit

White Domes-- West Peak Summit

A view of the west peak's summit, which requires a little easy, somewhat exposed Class 3 scrambling to reach. The summit has an airy feel and yields spectacular views. Here is another view that shows the slope a little better. Better viewed in "Orig." Valley of Fire State Park, Nevada-- April 2009

Interesting peak

The striations or whatever those edges are called are very interesting. What causes these? Any idea?

Re: Interesting peak

I haven't any idea, but I thought they were really neat, too. They seemed very delicate, too, so I tried to stay off them as much as possible.

Re: Interesting peak

Saw lots of these striations here and elsewhere in the park. Pretty delicate and I saw many broken ones from previous climbers. Hard to believe there are still so many left after seeing heavy use all these years.
