Why is limestone red here?

I think that it is painted red by bauxite. Or iron-oxid?

Well,

I'm not a geologist or a chemist, but I think the red color is due to iron oxide. It could have come from a layer of rock formation with iron content above the layer limestone.
Or, I may be WAY off on all of that.

Re: Well,

Iron-ore: this was my first impression, too. But 2 days ago I found a note on internet mentioning bauxite on Handlesberg. Now I don't find this source any more. In the neighbouring Hungary there are large bauxite fields on limestone highlands. They have the same colour. But in the vicinity (80 km far from here) there are large mines of iron. So it can be iron, too. I really don't know which one is valid...
