Wildflowers below the summit

Wildflowers below the summit

Willow Gentian (Gentiana asclepiadea) is a popular plant in the Carpathian Mountains. It can reach even 1 meter in height. In Bieszczady Mountains willow gentian is a protected species. It grows above the forest zone just below the summits. The plant is poisonous and has a bitter taste, which is a deterrent for wildlife. TARNICA - Bieszczady Mountains, Poland. Autumn 2006.
