Windlass

Windlass

Windlass is the old cable works located on Canaan Mountain plateau that was used to lower timber down to the valley. The wood construction still hangs off the side of the cliff

Yes ...

I KEEP hearing about this WINDLASS. Looks like that was a very interesting job to partake in.
Guess a person couldn't be afraid of heights.
Is Canaan Mountain inside the Dixie National Forest? That's an incredible area to VISIT!!!

Re: Yes ...

Yes, the Windlass was a really interesting feature on the mountain. There were a few other old machine parts scattered around that area.

Cable Mountain in Zion has a similar abandoned cable works that was used to lower timber to the valley. Canaan Mountain is located south of Dixie National Forest not far from Arizona.

Re: Yes ...

Looks like a GREAT one to visit. What are you doing indoors? I thought you were outside playing in the snow.

Re: Yes ...

You’re right, I should be out playing in the snow. We got a lot in the mountains. That must be why I’m thinking about mountains in the desert.
