My climbing partner had a bout with kidney stones on the descent.
#1 08-26-19 W/ Yadazoemtn. Beautiful weather: warm and a cloudless sky. Had to cross several snowfields in the upper basin to come from Sunlight to the saddle between Windom and Peak 18. Fun scrambling with a well-cairned trail to the unusual summit blocks.
Enjoyed views over Chicago Basin; approached without train (from Purgatory Flats trailhead)
It was like a puzzle to connect the parts of snow that were good enough to get traction with running shoes to achieve the ridge. Nice climber's trail through the boulder pile to the top.
In the early 2000s.
Did this as a double after Sunlight because we thought "class 2" = "easy". I would not call this class 2 once on the ridge, Class 3 in my book - but we got off route on the ascent-there are cairns EVERYWHERE on this mtn and we were fooled. What we ended up on was some very sketchy very class 3/4 loose gullies and boulders on the N face below the ridge. On the way down (and after a mini-meltdown) the route was much easier to follow and just easier in general. Whatever you do, stay near the ridge crest!
Climbed with my four year old son. See Trip Report.
Fun climb. Excellent views.
Got this one after Sunlight. With Kat and Dave.
Last peak out of four Chicago Basin 14ers, easy hike, great views from top!
Got kind of a late start out of camp due to some early rain, but was able to get this one in. Nice easy scrambling on big blocks.
8/10/05 - Climbed std route from camp in Chicago Basin after Sunlight.
12/23/12 - Part of a week long winter trip to Chicago Basin. Backpacked in from train drop at Cascade. Climbed the standard route after tackling Sunlight Peak.
I love Chicago Basin!
Climbed over from Sunlight and just got Windom before early storms kicked in. This was a straight-forward, more "relaxing" scramble that I'd like to return to sometime!
Surprisingly enjoyable, especially the finish. K's first mountain.
Climbed Sunlight then Windom from Chicago Basin. Lovely day!
nice jaunt from Sunlight across the scree valley
sunlight was sunny....windom was not. i climbed up windom for 15-20 minutes in the worst hailstorm i've ever experienced. it wasn't pleasant, but i wasn't turning around unless i heard thunder. once it relented, all was good. it was a tad slippery, but i was never put in an uncomfortable situation.
the summit was surprising!
steeper than people say...
Fortunatelly it was a little on the side so we were able to summit this incredible peak. Great ridge. Nice views.
