Wood Cow-Wheat

Wood Cow-Wheat

Wood Cow-Wheat (Melampyrum nemorosum) is an annual native to Europe. In the Low Beskid it grows on lower sections of mountain slopes. It is a hemiparasite which obtains mineral nutrients from other plants. However, wood cow-wheat is able to survive on its own. It blooms from June to September when it is pollinated by insects with long proboscis. Its appearance may vary depending on conditions in which it grows. The Low Beskid - Mount Chyrowa - June 2007.
