Also, when descending, after reaching the large rock, there's a long downhill where the trail makes a righthand turn while the logging road bears slightly left. This was the main place to get lost I thought (although it's also possible to lose the trail before the steep descent begins).
That's where I got lost. Read my trip report for what I ended up doing after descending all the way to the bottom of the logging road. OY!
Also, the trail pretty much dissipates in that spruce forest just above the big cliff on the way up. You have to be really, really careful there not to wander off trail.
Your exactly right. The first time I descended I didn't take the right turn and walked a little farther than expected, with my 4 yo son, 50 lb child carrier on my back
