man...

I never understood why people would remove bolt hangers. Using a nut is inventive, but it could rip off fairly easily right?

I think the bolt itself (the two bottom ones you see in the shot were the only newer ones) is weaker than the nut in every instance here :)

But I think this way of using nuts (as rivet hangers) would load them in a manner very similar to that which they were designed for?

Yeah I guess so, provided that little washer/nut is there to prevent it coming off if somehow the rope pulls a bit out from vertical! Man, all this aid talkin' and pitchers and such has got me wanting to aid! :D
