The northern peak (left) is the highest, with an altitude of 6636m. Yarlha Shampo is another important holy mountain in Tibet, and has been playing an important role in Tibetan mythology since pre-buddhist bön period. After a failed attempt to climb Yarlha Shampo in 2001, a Japanese team made the first ascent on 16 October 2007 via the North ridge. New info

The fact that Yarla Shampo was climbed is new to me. I had the peak in mind when I was looking for unclimbed mountains last winter and all lists gave me the same info: unclimbed. Now, back home the peak was easy to find in JAN, even if they use a completely different spelling: Yalaxianbo

Re: New info

It was also new to me. Actually I only noticed that Yarla Shampo was climbed when I made research for the Lhagoi Kangri page (see the updated High Asia systematics list under www.8000ers.com, the older versions do still mention it as unclimbed).

Did you managed to find a report online from the Japanese Alpine News about Yalaxianbo? I could only find a link saying that they published an article "First ascent of Yalaxianbo, 6635m in Tibet 2007" in the May 2008 edition, but couldn't find any access to this publication.
