My folks met climbing Half Dome and their grandparents were camping here at the turn of the century! This has always been my family's home.
hiked allover, snow was pretty good so there was not a lot of people around. big northridge quake knocked out our way home , took 14 hours across the Mojave.
Wonderful place, but can be tricky to avoid the crowds--even in the backcountry.
To all the glaciers and their work. Various routes on various things.
on Glacier Point Apron / Monday Morning Slab. June 1992. Fun!

...but beautiful. I like to go in spring, fall, and winter and generally avoid summertime because of the crowds. My first visit was in August 1998 and I have been back many times since. My favorite hike is Nevada/Vernal Falls. I hope to do Half Dome someday.
Didn't go for the first time until 2004. Hopefully I will get to go lots from now on!
Family hiked the Mist Trail to the top of Vernal Falls. We decided to get back to the valley and raft the frigid waters of the Merced rather than continue up to Nevada Falls. The expression on my 10 yr old daughter's face as she jumped off the bridge into the river told me that we made the correct decision.
Hiked to the top of Yosemite Falls.
Hiked to the top of Half Dome, fighting the crowds the whole way.
Climbed the first 5 pitches of the Central Pillar of Frenzy in Middle Cathedral as a party of 3 on Saturday, June 3, 2006: Javier Gonzalez, Dan and I. On Sunday June 4, 2006, climbed the first two pitches of Nutcracker and rapped off as there were too many parties above climbing and too many parties waiting at the big ledge on top of P2.
Previously, climbed in 2005: Variation on a Theme, Harry Daley Route, Church Bowl Lieback, The Center Grack.
My biggest hike in Yosemite. After visits in September 1995 and September 1996 it was my third visit in Yosemite National Park.
This was the date of my first valley hike, the Pohono Trail. Later, I completed the following hikes beginning or ending in Yosemite Valley -
Four Mile Trail; Panorama Trail; Mist Trail; Upper Yosemite Falls Trail; Sierra Point; Cloud's Rest; Merced River Canyon from Merced Lake. I also tried scrambling to the brink of Lower Yosemite Falls, but turned around when I encountered this fellow.
I've created a Glacier Point page, if you'd like to sign that climber's log. --mark d.
It fely hot and long. Unbelievably, we saw many people still going up in the hottest part of the day around 2 pm with no water. I think people underestimate how long this trail and how much elevation is gained. Soem great views over the waterfall and down the valley. very worthwhile hike. Start in the early AM and bring water!
Did the four mile Glacier Point Trail. Hiked in the valley a bit, and up Little Yosemite Valley to Half Dome.
I've created a Glacier Point page, if you'd like to sign the climber's log. --mark d.
nice climb! the Yosemite valley is a real wonder of the nature! we climbed up to Eagle peak,it really worth it ,you can see from Eagle peak what you can't from the top of the fall.
Glad our visit was a short one - this was not the right time to visit the Valley. My 9 year old daughter did great on the hike up after a 5 night jaunt in Emigrant.
Fine scramble that never pushed over a hiker's Class 3. Route as described, the only trick was the (very steep) Class 3 coming off the bench which turned out to be only slightly more difficult than climbing a ladder. There is also a ducked route about 100 yards east which is more interesting and a bit harder.
We went up to the base of the wall below Lost Arrow Spire.
