24-Dec-2005: Below Silliman Lake - the slabs are all covered with snow in winter - compare to what it looks like in the summer.

Voted 10/10 | I always wondered what the slabs look like covered in snow. That must've been one heck of a climb; I wonder if you were post holing thru the snow to ice, wearing crampons, etc., on your way up the slabs ??? | | Posted Dec 27, 2005 11:15 pm |

Hasn't voted | Thanks ! The climb up this wasn't really that bad. However, I think I took the incorrect route up - too far to the climber's left. This was a little steep and firm in places, and I changed into crampons, but after a bit I started to posthole in soft sticky afternoon snow, the grade decreased, and I changed back to snowshoes.
On the way down I stayed more to the climber's right, in the trees where the grade was more gentle. I think that's a better route.
