Dead trees?Are those dead trees? They look like the needle bearing kind (can't find the english word..), so not just autumn colors. I noticed the same thing when I was in Bormio this summer, large areas of mountain forest entirely DEAD. That can't be good...

Re: Dead trees?These are tamaracks. Tamaracks cast their needles in the fall as do bald cypresses and metasequoias.

Re: Dead trees?the general term is "larch tree" ("Lärche" in German). Colors come and then needles go in October/November. I don't know what happened in Bormio.

Re: Dead trees?In America Larix species go by the name Tamarack- a great wood for starting a fire. I thought this was an autumn picture.
