A good article explains itself...

Re: Something

So says I, however my professor would contend otherwise.

too rosy?

"All in all climbers are good people"
I think it's a mix of people like most other "groups" though perhaps more heavily weighted toward the self-centered-asshole end of the spectrum. Nothing special or unifying about “climbers”…just a different opinion, that’s all :)

Re: too rosy?

too rosy? perhaps. what can I say I am an optimist who would like to break the "anti-dogmatic dogmatism". thanks much for your opinion, and happy climbing!

Wolfman howls

Outstanding work bro... I somehow know exactly what you mean, and I know you know exactly what I mean by saying I know exactly what you mean. Great satire!!! ...and I hope that no one reading it makes the pitiful mistake of over-analyzing its utterly bombastic and humorous content. Outstanding work, my brother-of-the-highlands. You truly are a misunderstood creature in your civilized surroundings... GO OUTSIDE!!! --wolfman

Nakedness is next to Godlyness

I decide after reviewing your fine article. That I shall climb naked. To start a new trend in the climbing world. I think it would be very enjoyable to hang out. Sure there is the possibility of it getting scrapped up a bit. But its nothing a lil mud cant fix. And if i needed to tuck it away i could easily accomplish this with my extra slings. so i ask to all out there, to join me in my new quest of furthering nudism into climbing

Re: Nakedness is next to Godlyness

I don't know if i scare too many teachers. My other amigo is a burly fellow who probably most definitely scared a few in his days. But do i think of myself as a climber? Perhaps, but i consider myself more of just a lover of this world.

Great article

Now, I'm not a climber per say; I've attempted it a few times. Your kind is definately an interesting breed. Don't get me wrong. I say that in the most respectful way. You have to be a little "different" to have the guts to do those things you do. Climb on!

Re: Great article

Guts?...er just no brains. Either way your on to something about "attempting", for that is where the glory and adventure is, in the attempt. Keep after the adventure and happy climbing!!

laughing at yourself . . .

is what it's all about. I love that you can entertain yourself with your writing. I appreciate the irony of the story. I know the climber who aspires to live in a cave doing nothing but climbing hard routes all day, every day. I know the "cool" gym climber who has never seen real rock and fancies himself a climber. I'd like to think I'm somewhere in-between, enjoying every possible moment outdoors. Besides, what's wrong with frolicking naked through grassy meadows?!?!? (yeah, I crack myself up!) ;-)

Great story!

Good'un

I liked what you wrote but I wonder...was the assignment supposed to be the writing of an essay or a satire?

Re: Good'un

A satire is technically a type of essay. Or so says my professor.

From the Flatlands...

Dude:
Amazingly written story / satire / article - considering the fact that your abode is in the flatlands of Norman, OK, and not near any caves / cliffs / ridges / mountains. Nevertheless, your mind and soul is really OUT THERE ! and that's what counts...
Was in Tulsa (TU) for 2.5 years - dreamt of getting a job in CO / CA / WA - but landed up in TX - Its the same - As flat as can be (except if you drive 9 hrs to see some "elevation") - No Good !
Write more, whenever you can....

Later,
S.

btw - did you top the english writing class?

Re: From the Flatlands...

Thanks lingana!
It is a little hard to get out into the hills living here in Oklahoma. I have been out West many many times, and that is where my heart truly dwells. TX? That can be rough, but stay with it and happy climbing!! And yes, I did "conquer" the evil that was my english class. ;)

irony

Whether it was intended or not (your "critique" implies randomness) - Swamp Donkey Disco is the name of an illegitimate climbers' party held every year on some ledge on Cannon Cliff in New Hampshire. The best of the best (or not) gather to celebrate and respect WHO they are, and WHERE they are (because there is no elevator to this roof-top party, and hopefully they are tied in to an anchor somewhere). I raise one to all of us who fight gravity, just for the sake of going UP

Re: irony

I am not sure what exactly you mean by your comment, I am sorry I a may just be a simpleton. I offer my greatest apologies. However, the entire article/essay/satire, whatever you want to call it, is meant to be just that. Whatever. Laugh. Smile. Cry. Hate. Take what you will and happy climbing!!!

Re: irony

ya know... what it's really all about is as in the words of Sammy Hagar... "Standin' on top of the world!!"
