A Skagit Alpine Club...

A Skagit
Alpine Club...
A Skagit Alpine Club mountaineering class snakes up the moraine after walking across Colchuck Lake.

April, 1978

Two years later, the class was doing the same climb in May when we heard what we thought was dynamiting in the Icicle Valley. Turned out a certain volcano had exploded down south. The ash plume was clearly visible (and growing) from the ridge crest. The summit bid was cancelled in favor of hightailing home while the roads were passable.

Actually, I love any pic of Colchuck Peak or the nearby Enchantment peaks. This is a nice scan from your slide.
