Aerial photographs

The beauty of the Earth from high above is amazing. I am collecting here some of my aerial photographs over mountains. Feel free to add yours as well!

A few hints

Taking photographs while flying is nothing short of difficult, especially if you fly on an airliner.

A few suggestions :
- use a strong anti-UV or Skylight filter. This will help to minimize the effect of UV rays that tend to diminish the clearness of images and cause a cold color cast.
- use a polarizer lens if possible, to increase clearness (avoid with airliner windows, however, which are made of plastic).
- get as near as you can to the window. This will help sending the windows blemishes out of focus. For the same reason, try to use an open aperture (shorter depth of field).
- You will typically get a low contrast image ("washed out"). Increase the contrast during the elaboration of the photograph. Unfortunately, doing this will also tend to pull up grain and noise, often to unacceptable levels. In view of this, use the lowest possible ISO settings. I also advise to use high quality digital cameras that produce low noise images. Excellent choices are reflex cameras : Canon in the first place, but Nikon is very good as well. These typically have lower noise than most digicams.
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Airplanes

I just got a ride around Glacier Peak, Mt Baker, Shuksan in Washington State. I was thinking of starting a page like this, but no need. Way to go on a very good page.
