Ahern Peak

Ahern Peak

This is Ahern Peak (8749'), with Ahern Glacier to the right. Ahern Pass is out of the image (but close) to the left. Contrary to what might be assumed from the perspective here, it is an easy walk-up from the unseen pass to summit. Photo by Vernon, July 20, 2005.

Ahern drift

Great photos and description. I hiked via the Highline across the Ahern Drift to the pass and up to the peak in late July, 2008. I slid down the Ahern drift, crashed and rolled into rocks and was lucky to have escaped with a few gashes. This year, the snow will as be daunting. CRAMPONs and ice axe next time!

Re: Ahern drift

Wow...good job in staying in one piece—not to mention alive! While using both the above-mentioned tools, I find an ice axe more often to be de rigueur.

Thanks for the comments.
