In the past people situated settlements on the elevated rocks which offered well defence.
In Poland, my country, there are preserved many beautiful castles mounted on the steep, granite or dolomite rocks. These buildings were erected mainly in the mediaeval period. Unfortunately, during a long history of this area numerous wars were here and therefore many castles were destroyed and sometimes only modest remnants are visible today. However, also these evidences of our past are interesting. Images
