Famous 4000ers in the world!

This album is dedicated to all those 4000ers on our planet that are famous for some kind of reason!

There can be lots of reasons for their popularity:

Mont Blanc thanks it's popularity because it is the highst peak of the Alps (also a real beauty though.)
Carstens Pyramid is mainly popular because it is the highest point of the whole continent of Oceania. The same reason accounts for the Vinson Massif on Antarctica.
Mount Withney and Mount Elbert are popular because they are the highest points of a state (California & Colorado). But in their cases also of a mountain range: Whitney of the Sierra Nevada and Elbert of the (USA)Rocky Mountains.
Other 4000ers are just popular because of their shape and difficulty of climbing like for example Matterhorn and Weisshorn in the Alps.

Here follows a list with the 4000ers I selected for the list:

-Carstensz Pyramid (Irian Jaya)
-Mont Blanc (Alps)
-Matterhorn (Alps)
-Piz Bernina (Alps)
-Ushba (Caucasus)
-Weisshorn (Alps)
-Dent du Geant (Alps)
-Barre des Ecrins (Alps)
-Finsteraarhorn (Alps)
-Gran Paradiso (Alps)
-Mount Whitney (USA)
-Klyuchevskaya-sopka (Kamchatka)
-Mount Meru (Africa)
-Mount Elbert (USA)
-Grandes Jorasses (Alps)
-Alam Kooh (Iran)
-Nevado de Toluca (Mexico)
-Dufourspitze (ALps)
-Schreckhorn(ALPS)
-Grand Teton (USA)
-Dom (Alps)
-Mauna Kea (Hawaii)
-Dent blanche
-Vinson Massif (Antarctica)
-Mount Shasta (USA)
-Jungfrau (Alps)
-Longs Peak (USA)
-Mount Rainier (USA)
-Malinche (Mexico)
-Mount waddington
-Toubkal (Marocco)
-Vestal peak (USA)
-Gannett (USA)
-Belukha (Russia)
-Kinabalu (Malaysia)
-Aiguille Verte (Alps)

-If you have suggestions for other 4000ers not mentioned, please let me know!
-In this album is ONE image of each mountain.
-There are also 4000ers famous because they are easy to ascent (like Allalinhorn and Gran Paradiso) I decided to keep them out of of this album.
-Famous 5000 or 6000ers Albums may follow!!
Enjoy!!!

Nice!
Maybe you should add links to SP pages in the name of the mountains? Easier to navigate.

Nice album. Note that Mt Whitney is not the country highpoint for the US. (Denali is the highest point.) Mt Whitney and Mt Elbert are both simply state highpoints for CA and CO respectively. Cheers...

any pictures ?
(you haven't activated the option...)

You didn't put Aiguille Verte (4122M - French Alps) in your list, and I think it is a famous one.

Hi Antoine, yes that's a good one I will attach it!
I decided to use the 'private attach' only because then the album is more varied in the first 15 images. Otherwise you would get maybe 2 or 3 images of the same mountain in the front so that others are put to the back, that's why I decided to put only one image of every mountain on!
Hope you agree with me! Cheers Lodewijk

JanGgreat collection

Voted 10/10

Congratulations for such a nice collection of photos of awesome peaks. You left out Grand Combin and other noteworthy peaks >4000. Such a list will always remain a matter of individual memorable climbs or easy access (for example, Breithorn or Alphubel).

Have you considered a list of famous 3000s ? La Meije, Eiger, Piz Palu would certainly make the list!

Once again, super photos of these peaks and your collections of the other famous 5000s, 6000s, etc.
