Alpenglow on Huascarán Sur, from Garganta

Garganta, the saddle between Sur and Norte, tops out just above 6000m. This viewpoint is not much lower. It looks pretty, but those seracs are dangerous, as testified to by the avalanche debris at the bottom. And, higher on the slope, there are some very big crevasses. In 2011, the route to the summit of Sur did not go up here, but further left. There were seracs there too, but at least there was a route through all the crevasses. 8 August 2011.
