Alpine choughs around the Augstenberg summit cross

As I had a short break, a couple of birds joined me. It's a popular hiking trail, so probably they regularly get food from the tourists, either left over crumbs or direct hand outs. 23 June 2012.

I don't know exactly how widespread these are, but I've seen them all over the Alps. This is in Liechtenstein, close to the border with Austria.

I can see why you love these birds; they frequently seem to show up on summits where people tend to have a rest, and then gingerly hop around close by, as if trying to coax a bit of food from us. Makes me smile :-)
