At the bottom of a steep shute

At the bottom of a steep shute

The Jamjoch is the big saddle between the Hintere and Vordere Jamspitze. We came up from the northeast, over the Jamtal Ferner in Austria, which is one of the two regular, easy routes. The other one is from the southwest, over the Vadretta Tuoi in Switzerland. However, after bagging the Hintere Jampsitze and returning to the saddle, we took a slightly less easy route to get off the Jamjoch. We wanted to climb the Dreiländerspitze next, and so, to get to the base of the normal route, we went down a steep shute at the the northwestern side of the saddle. It was at its steepest near the top, near the edge of the Jamjoch, and filled with loose rubble, a mixture of mud and rocks. It was a relief to reach the snow again further down. 22 July 2013.
