Atlantic Peak as seen from the lake at 13,200 feet at the foot of Pacific Peak's summit block. The peak to the left is Fletcher Mountain. Comments[ Post a Comment ] | CharlesD | Pacific Tarn | |
Voted 10/10 | Nice photo. The lake happens to be Pacific Tarn which has the distinction of being the highest altitude lake in North America (13,400'). What time of year was this taken? I wouldn't think the tarn was liquid much of the year. | | Posted Jul 19, 2007 11:33 am |

Hasn't voted | Thanks! It was taken on July 7th this year. There was still quite a large chunk of ice (60% or so) on the lake, but it was quite cold! (I broke my water bottle on the ridge, and needed to find and purify several times that day...)
I'm surprised that a lake with such distinction isn't named on any topo maps, especially since some smaller lakes in the cirque immediately to the north are (Mohawk lakes). Well, who am I to second guess...
Thanks again! | | Posted Jul 23, 2007 11:19 am |
