Add Heading hereIn a stroke of luck, I was invited to join this trip about 10 hours before it started. I had climbed with Aaron before and had a lot of fun. Although I'd never met Jaimie and Jim before, I new they were good people. We started off at the winter parking beyond Trout Lake and headed up around 5:45.
The trip through the woods was bushwhacking at it's best. Upon reaching the upper basin, I was cramping up, and I threw in the towel. The rest of the party went on ahead of me. I have a few shots of them in the Couloir on Vermilion. I think I could have made the summit, but pain and time left in the day weighed in my decision.
Vermilion is a majestic summit sitting roughly between Lizard Head Pass and Silverton, CO. It now has strangely thwarted my attempts three times. I wanted it really bad, it just wasn't meant to be.
This is the hardest I've ever went for 13 hours and came away empty handed.
