Josef Pfannl Fritz Waniek Max Schottik died at Reißtalersteig (Rax) on March 8th 1896: As a result of this tragic event the first mountain rescue service was founded - Alpiner Rettungsausschuss Wien (ARAW) and local offices in Reichenau and Mürzzuschlag btw.: ARAW is/was the first Mountain Rescue Service in the World - after World War 2 it was refounded as Bergrettungsdienst Österreich © DoJo Jul. 2007
