We getSaharan sand quite often here in Provence, mostly with rain.

Avalanches of Saharan snow
Avalanches from Begunjscica seen from the austrian border. One can now clearly see the brownish color of the fresh snow indicating that the depression came from Africa and the snow contains Saharan sand! My checking the satelite pictures at that time proved me right. It's not a very rare phenomenon, it occurs a couple of times a year, it's just not always that obvious.
