Back of the Range

The mountain range surrounding Guoliang and Nanping is completely closed off to the surrounding areas. Approach it from the front, and you hit the huge sandstone cliffs (today solved by the road winding THROUGH the cliff). Approach from the back, and you have a vertical-faced mountains requiring technical climbing to bypass. No wonder this area of Henan Province stayed isolated for so long!
