It was a rigorous hike but well worth the view at the top. I'm glad we hiked it. ~ Joshua and Kathrine Schiermeyer

Heather and I parked below Windy Gap at 7am and then hiked up Baden-Powell, Burnham, Throop, Hawkins, Middle Hawkins, and Islip. We got back to the car at 2pm and then drove around hiking up Akawie, Winston, and Lewis. The next day we did both summits of Twin Peaks as well as Waterman.

StartingOverBeautiful Hike  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Aug 19, 2014

The views from the top were probably some of the best in Southern California. (I say probably because this is the highest peak I've climbed thus far; no Baldy or Old Greyback.)

spapagiannisA nice way to meet PCT thru-hikers  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Jun 5, 2014

Hiked up via Vincent Gap, made a stop over at the summit of Mt. Burnham. It was a 6.5 hour leisurely out-and-back hike. At the summit I chatted with some PCT thru-hikers for an hour before they departed northbound (they're probably just now finishing, or have just finished!). That was a certainly the highlight of the hike. However, I didn't find this particular mountain to be that much of a challenge or inspiration in of itself. The air was June-gloom hazy with a cloudless sky so that didn't offer much either, and windy (didn't mind the wind though). It was a good one-time mountain hike, though due to there not being anything specifically intriguing about the mountain to me and that this trailhead is not particularly convenient to get to, this one may just remain as a one-timer for me. Maybe a different route other than Vincent Gap might be more interesting.

LeftenantDanGreat Little Hike  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Jun 14, 2014

5th Annual Father's Day weekend hike with my daughter. After doing Baldy and Telegraph in prior years we gave B-P a try. Short, just 8+ miles R/T, moderate elevation gain, well maintained trail, great views, not crowded until the way down (as we passed the Boy Scout pilgrimage and the bus full of Korean hikers), goldilocks weather on top- not too cold, not too hot- enjoyable morning and back to the car by 10:00 am.

PastorronSo much fun in snow  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Jan 15, 2012

One of the best hiking days of the year for our group of friends. The hike had it all - great weather, enough snow to need an ice-ax, enough ice to need crampons and great views. Very slow going down. Will do again in the future.

Stayed the night atop Baden Powell and watched the Supermoon rise above Mount Baldy! Got some gorgeous shots of the Wally Tree at sunset with the moon behind. Wow, what a place.

This was part of a series of climbs during a back pack in snowy conditions over my spring break back in 1970. No tent, just a tarp and a sleeping back!

Tried this peak from Vincent Gap last year and was unsuccesful due to high amount of snow. This time we went when it was a little nicer. Great views next time we'll go from Dawson

Date Climbed: Oct 11, 2010

Tagged this and Mount Burnham via the PCT from Dawson Saddle. Honestly, this is one of the most beautiful hikes in the San Gabriels. The summit is unusual and the trail is never harder than moderate difficulty. Highly recommended especially from Dawson, I think its a 10 mile hike and a few thousand feet of gain. I've thrown pics up on my blog in case its helpful to you. http://summitascents.com/2010/10/11/dawson-saddle-to-mt-baden-powell-and-mt-burnham/
