Altitude in the Karakoram is in a state of constant revision. relatively young, the range is still in the process of formation; subject to a continuous upthrust and pressure resulting from the collision of drifting continents. Here, amid wind, and snow-ravaged gorge and peak, two ancient continents collide, and their mighty offspring, The Karakoram and Himalaya, Hindukush and Pamir mountain ranges , jostle, thrust, and heave in titanic and unrelenting struggle.
