Battle of Wills, 5.9RX

  • Battle of Wills – 5.9RX/
  • Nasty, unprotectable route in my opinion. Rarely climbed, thus dirty and untested varnish. I ran the route out only to have a piece give way (fully expected) and I fell a considerable distance ripping apart one of our double ropes on the sharp sandstone flake (photo). Very aesthetic, thus why I gave it a go. Up this large body consuming flake, then a tough move out left onto the hollow structure to run up a thin crack to the sloping finish. Don’t recommend trying it. Sand Dunes Area, Island in the Sky, Snow Canyon State Park, 2007

    Re: damn

I think the expression on my face says it best, I was just lowered, that finger is fucked up if you look close enough...I was pissed..wanted to head back up...partner talked some sense into me and we went up an easier route and cleaned the bitch...I knew better, Todd told me it was a piece of crap. I had it done. Just reaching for the station. Keep the varnish pieces that broke on my desk to remind me of the precarious nature of this rock. Cheers.

    Re: impressive!

yes sir,#2, I have a nasty little collection of busted TCU's...when the rock pops, they over extend...lets just say I have a new found respect for C-4s....I am going to eventually move to a granite area someday..and save wear and tear on body and equip

I haven't been down to Georgia in quite some time. My niece invited me to visit her place in Atlanta, so I'll ask her how the lake's doing. They're slowly filling up here in NC. The high country streams are chugging along at a normal rate lately.
