Beckey Route : Climbing, Hiking & Mountaineering : SummitPost

The Beckey route has a beautiful chimney that is about 180ft long. We did about 750 ft of 4th class and easy 5th class before the Chimney. We then did a 1000ft more to the summit. You could certainly make it harder or easier depending on your comfort level.

Getting There

Follow directions for Ambush. The Beckey is on the left side of the biggest Tower and the Chimney is obvious about half way up the wall.

Route Description

Very fun good rock, but it was a little wet and slimey at the bottom of the chimney. When the chimney squeezes down you can place a smaller piece up high and then make the move over the overhang. It has a good jug at that point and you can then pull over it. Once over that go deep into the chimney and there is a very nice crack on the left wall with good holds the whole way. You could also cut down on the rack and split the cmindy pitch in two by belaying deep in the chimney after pulling the squeeze.

Essential Gear

Take a double rack to a four or less if you prefer. Walk off the back and then go to the Gieke/Ambush Col and ski down on gravel and snow fields if you feel comfortable.
