Belaying my Partner Across a Crevasse Bridge

Belaying my Partner Across a Crevasse Bridge

Taken July 8, 2012 on the Emmons Glacier of Mount Rainier. My buddy Eric was pretty excited to cross this crevasse bridge which was actually a snow chunk wedged between a crevasse. Because of the uncertainty of the stability of this snow bridge we decided to do a snow belay across using pickets. A hour or so later it collapsed, people had to figure out a different way down the mountain. My crampon and boot can be seen at the bottom of this photo.

Nice!

I remember that bridge! It broke 30 minutes after we crossed it!

Re: Nice!

Another benefit to going down fast was that we avoided the crowds too.
