Overview
The bivouac hut is for 8 people.
It especially supports winter mountaineering (alpinism) and of course also supports SAR actions.
The hut may also help out by bad weather during the summer mountain-hiking season.
> By cloudy weather, loss of orientation along the Veliki Podi high terrace may lead to a big loss of time.
At ca. 2100 m altitude, Veliki Podi is a high terrace, left over by one of the Ice Ages. Veliki Podi means big grounds.
On the south edge of Veliki Podi, the drop to the Kamniška Bistrica valley bottom is drastical, making also for walls such as Kogel.
Grintovec rises to the West of the grounds.
To the North, Veliki Podi is limited by Dolgi Hrbet, Štruca and Skuta.
It is the Skuta SE ridge that closes off Veliki Podi to the East. Further East of this ridge there are more grounds, called Mali Podi.
The bivouac hut is named Zavetišče Pavleta Kemperla, in honour of Pavle Kemperle, a pioneer of alpinism. It is also called Bivak pod Grintovcem, as it stands at the foot of Grintovec E.
Getting There SOUTH: from the Cojzova koča mountain hut, along the Skuta standard.
NORTH:
- From Mlinarsko sedlo, the saddle between Grintovec and Dolgi hrbet. This saddle is the cross-over from the NW side of the range (from the Češka koča mountain hut) to the south side. This route page may help out.
- descending from Skuta along the regular route.
EAST:
Along the marked and secured mountain-hiking path "crossing Sleme" (coming from Mali Podi). Check the yellow line on this image (Veliki Podi to the left).
Red TapeThe Kamnik-Savinja Alps are part of the Natura 2000 program.
