Re: ursus...Apparently this was a mother bear with cubs (I never saw them). The group ahead of me had some dogs that had treed the cubs. After retreating to give the bears some time to move on, when we returned the mother ended up treeing as well, with remarkable agility I must add. It was exciting to see, but left me feeling somewhat like an intruder.
