This was a very beautiful state park. It was over a year ago but I stayed with a nice couple at a bed and breakfast in the park. The hike itself was actually quite nice and not what I expected for Oklahoma, the marker on top was really cool.

I started the hike around 1 p.m. It was very hot. It took me about 4 hours round trip. There were several other people on the trail, but I was at the summit alone for the 15 minutes I was up there. Very beautiful area.

There certainly wasn't much to see as the fog was very thick. But, 65 degrees in mid July beats hiking in 95 degree heat. My 11th highpoint.

My wife joined me for this "hobble-fest" and appreciated the fact that I didn't rush her for once. It took me 5.25 hours car to car. We enjoyed and highly recommend the Black Mesa Bed and Breakfast. The owners were very friendly and hospitable.

Hiked in on a hot summer afternoon. Spent some time on top and on the way back out broke into a jog as summer thunder clouds came out of nowhere! [with Pocket Rocks]

Savy said it was hard but well worth it!

I say longer hike to the mesa than I expected then short trip but we enjoyed it and was glad to get on top for a bit of a breeze!

Started @ 1 AM. Windy, cloudless, half waning moon. Beautiful scenery in the moonlight. So much flox! Eighty five minute walk up, same time back down. Back in my car @ 4 AM.

Hiked this one day after Arkansas' Mt. Magazine. Flew a Cessna 170B into Clayton, NM then drove to Kenton. Lucked out by finding a clean, wonderful bed and breakfast about four miles from the trailhead (Black Mesa Bed and Breakfast). I highly recommend the B&B. The owners were very friendly and hospitable. The hike was pretty easy. The hardest part was the heat on the way back down. The mileage went by relatively quickly as it is predominantly flat. Would recommend!

It was a scorching hot walk through Mesa country on a July day. Though, the mesas and surrounding country were beautiful! The hike was very easy and had a nice big monument too. For me, State HP #23!!

A beautiful nature walk, with a small section of assent. Really nice views. Stayed at the B&B that night, great time with some locals.

Temps in the 70s, a nice breeze on top. About a 4 hour round trip with about a half hour on top. Sunscreen and water! Stayed at Black Mesa B&B and ate at Hoot Owl Guest Ranch and learned some local history.

Hiked this with my Son and wife this weekend. Not many places nearby to stay. We stayed in Clayton, NM at Best Western. Fantastic BW! No camping allowed in the preserve. :-( Very easy leisurely hike. Easiest High Point to date. This would most likely be entirely different as a summer hike. No shade, No water. Very well marked trail. The view into the valley from the top of the Mesa is about all this offers. But even Barren land has a beauty of its own. Trail head Bathroom is the best Ive found! Thanks to the conservancy!

Unique views, and saw several horned toads and pronghorn antelope. First 2.5 miles is flat walking, then short 1/4 mile or so up the hill. On top was only dissappointing factor, another mile of flat walking to marker. But worth seeing it all at least once. Took us 1:20 up and 2:40 total round trip. We had shade and a little breeze most of the way, which really made it nice. Bring some water and conversation.
