Boise Inversion from Shafer Butte

Boise Inversion from Shafer Butte

One of the all too often inversions settled in the treasure valley. For those of you who are not familiar with this weather pattern, it happens when a warm air mass moves in over the mountains and is not able to push out a cold, dense air mass. This inverts the normal temperature gradient, causing the valley to be much colder than the mountains. As with most environments, Boise inversions are always accompanied by dense fog in the valley. The result: a beautiful ocean of clouds visible from the mountains.
