Brocken Spectre from Tryfan
The shadow of a person seen in conjunction with a rainbow is known as a "Brocken Spectre". The Rainbow around the shadow is known as a "Glory".
In this instance, my shadow seemed massively elongated (about 100 metres long) cast onto cloud that was below me. I was standing with my feet apart, balanced on two rocks.
What makes this Brocken Spectre more unusual is that you seem to be seeing a shadow appear over another shadow. My shadow appears to be projected onto the nearest droplets of water in the cloud, whilst the distinctive outline of Tryfan's three summits seems to be cast on droplets of water within the cloud or perhaps on the other side of the cloud. Because the cloud was swirling around on the breeze, the whole shadow/rainbow thing was constantly moving backwards and forwards and (slightly disconcertingly) at one point I appeared to rotate about 45 degrees. The big rocks either side are known as "Adam and Eve" and they crown the middle summit of Tryfan.
